Israeli military actions, Hezbollah response escalate tensions in Southern Lebanon

(MENAFN) Israeli military actions intensified in southern Lebanon recently, marked by artillery shelling and aerial operations that targeted several areas. Reports indicated that Israeli artillery fired shells between Aita al-Shaab and Rmeish towns, as well as in the open areas around Mahbib, Barashit, and Kounine. Concurrently, Israeli warplanes conducted flights over southern Lebanon, including Tyre city and surrounding districts, as well as the eastern sector.

Further escalating tensions, Israeli drones launched an airstrike in the "Al-Qalila" area, targeting a motorcycle which resulted in one fatality and one injury. The Israeli military confirmed another drone strike on the previous night, claiming the life of Hezbollah member Mustafa Hassan Salman in the same area. Additionally, Israeli warplanes carried out three raids on "Jabal Tura" in southern Jezzine, destroying a goat pen and the shepherd's dwelling, and resulting in the death of over 700 goats.

In response to these Israeli actions, Hezbollah retaliated by launching drones targeting an Israeli technical and electronic reconnaissance center on Mount Hermon, situated north of the occupied Golan Heights. This counterattack was in direct response to Israel's killing of a senior Hezbollah member the day before. Hezbollah's statement confirmed that its operatives carried out a drone strike on Mount Hermon, where Israel maintains a significant observation post. Notably, this strike on a military target at such a high altitude in Israeli-controlled territory marks a significant escalation, potentially heightening regional tensions to the brink of broader conflict. Observers are closely monitoring the situation, acknowledging the potential for further escalation into a regional conflict.
