Official discloses areas of difference between occupation, Hamas over Gaza deal

(MENAFN) In a pivotal diplomatic initiative, the heads of the CIA and Israel's Mossad are slated to convene in Doha on Wednesday to deliberate on a prospective ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, as per information from a source well-versed in the mediation efforts.

The source, who requested anonymity, revealed that CIA Director William Burns and Mossad Chief David Barnea are scheduled to arrive in Doha. "Both leaders are heading to Doha on Wednesday," the source confirmed.

According to the "Kingdom" channel, the source added that the two intelligence leaders are expected to hold a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister Mohamed Bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani. For several months, Qatar has been collaborating with Egypt and the United States in joint mediation efforts aimed at securing a truce in Gaza and facilitating the release of prisoners held in the region.

Last Friday, Barnea visited Doha to engage in talks with Qatari mediators regarding a ceasefire plan and the release of detainees. Upon his return, a spokesperson for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel would dispatch its delegates back to Doha "next week" to further the negotiations.

Additionally, negotiations are set to take place in Egypt this week, highlighting the multi-pronged approach to the mediation process. The source emphasized that the discussions in Doha would concentrate on moving from an initial truce to a more enduring period of calm.

A Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations disclosed that the Doha talks would also see the participation of mediators from Egypt and are expected to commence on Wednesday. The official, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, mentioned that "indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel will begin with mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and the United States in attendance."

These high-level discussions highlight the collaborative efforts of various international actors to bring stability to the Gaza Strip and address the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel.
