United Kingdom general election sees high turnout amid Labour majority expected

(MENAFN) Millions of voters across the United Kingdom are expected to participate in the country's general election on Thursday, according to reports. Opinion polls indicate that the Labour Party, led by the centre-left, is poised to secure a significant majority in the House of Commons, potentially forming the next government.

Polling stations opened at 7:00 AM local time (06:00 GMT) and are slated to remain open until 10:00 p.m., providing ample opportunity for voters to cast their ballots throughout the day. This election is seen as pivotal, with both major parties making impassioned appeals to voters in the final hours before polls close.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, facing the possibility of his last day in office, delivered a fervent plea to voters to prevent a Labour majority and instead support the Conservative Party. Joined by his parents and his wife, Akshata Murthy, Sunak emphasized the stakes of the election in his final campaign speech on Wednesday, urging citizens to "save the UK" by backing his party at the ballot box.

The election campaign has been marked by vigorous debates and intensive campaigning efforts across the country, with party leaders making final appeals to undecided voters in a bid to sway the outcome in their favor. As polling stations remain open throughout the day, the nation awaits the outcome that will shape its political landscape for the coming years.
