Venezuela plans on conducting discussions with America

(MENAFN) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has announced plans to restart negotiations with the United States, marking a significant diplomatic development amidst strained relations. The decision, disclosed in a televised address on Monday, follows Washington's proposal to renew dialogue, aiming to uphold previous agreements and facilitate urgent discussions.

Maduro confirmed that talks, previously paused for two months, will resume next Wednesday, led by Venezuelan negotiator Jorge Rodriguez. Details regarding the specific agenda or location for the upcoming dialogue were not immediately disclosed.

The initiative revives efforts initiated in Qatar, where in September 2023, Venezuela and the United States brokered an accord leading to a prisoner exchange. This agreement followed earlier negotiations in Barbados, where Maduro's government and opposition committed to organizing a free and fair presidential election in 2024 under international scrutiny.

However, tensions resurfaced in April when the United States reinstated sanctions on Venezuela's energy sector, citing concerns over democratic principles. Maduro's administration, in response, accused Washington of violating the Qatar accord, underscoring the complex dynamics influencing bilateral relations.

The resumption of talks presents an opportunity to address contentious issues and potentially pave the way for improved diplomatic relations ahead of Venezuela's upcoming presidential election. As both countries navigate geopolitical challenges, the outcome of these discussions could have far-reaching implications for regional stability and international cooperation.
