German national airline appends night trips to Lebanon

(MENAFN) Germany's Lufthansa airline has decided to suspend night flights to Lebanon due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, as reported by the news agency dpa on Monday. The exchange of rocket fire between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified recently, prompting evacuations on both sides of the border. Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, previously warned of potential full-scale conflict with Israel, including the possibility of invading northern Israeli territories in response to further escalation.

The United Nations has also expressed concern over the situation. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned of the potential for catastrophic consequences from a single miscalculation, extending far beyond the immediate region.

Lufthansa clarified that while daytime flights would continue as scheduled, night flights to and from Beirut will be suspended from June 29th to July 31st due to current Middle Eastern developments. The German Foreign Ministry had earlier advised against travel to Lebanon, urging German citizens already in the country to leave promptly due to the unpredictable and potentially worsening conflict situation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also announced a shift in focus for some Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops from Gaza to the Lebanese border, where they have been engaged with Hamas since last October.
