Le Pen accuses Macron of planning ‘administrative coup’

(MENAFN) French President Emmanuel macron has initiated a rapid reorganization of key government positions, prompting accusations from former National Rally leader Marine Le Pen that he is orchestrating a preemptive move to stymie Jordan Bardella's potential governance plans. With the National Rally (RN) poised to potentially secure a plurality in the upcoming Sunday runoff, Macron's recent appointments have drawn scrutiny.

Following their lead in the first round of the snap parliamentary elections, the RN and its allies are anticipated to capture between 230 to 280 seats in the 577-seat National Assembly, according to projections in French media. Le Pen characterized Macron's actions as an "administrative coup d'état" during an interview with France Inter radio on Tuesday, citing reports claiming Macron's haste in appointing senior civil servants, including to prominent European Union roles.

Recent days have seen Macron appointing several senior officials, including the military governor of Paris, the new chief of the General Staff of the French Air Force, the director of the European Union at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and three ambassadors. Additionally, Macron proposed the reappointment of Thierry Breton as France’s European commissioner during a recent visit to Brussels.

Le Pen asserted that these appointments are aimed at thwarting Jordan Bardella's potential governance approach should the RN secure a majority in the upcoming election. She emphasized that if her party assumes power, they would reverse these appointments to enable their governance plans.
