Pakistani Minister calls for strengthening bilateral ties with Azerbaijan

(MENAFN) Pakistani Minister of Commerce Jam Kamal Khan emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties with Azerbaijan during a meeting with Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov on Tuesday. Khan underscored the need to expedite the conclusion of a preferential trade agreement and a bilateral transit trade agreement between the two countries, highlighting Pakistan's commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors.

"In addition to trade, our cooperation extends to tourism, transport, energy security, and defense, areas where we are keen to deepen our collaboration through concerted efforts," Minister Jam Kamal Khan stated.

He also highlighted the positive impact of Chinese and Saudi investments in Pakistan, which he believes can encourage Azerbaijani investors to explore opportunities within Pakistan's growing economy.

Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov emphasized the ease of travel between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, noting that Azerbaijan's favorable visa policy had led to 55,000 Pakistani visitors last year alone. He also highlighted Azerbaijan's role as the first Central Asian country to initiate direct flights to Pakistan, which has significantly enhanced connectivity between the two nations.

The discussions between Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov reflect the mutual commitment of Pakistan and Azerbaijan to deepen their economic and diplomatic relations, fostering greater bilateral cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
