Canada's Hottest Gaming Console Is PS5

(MENAFN- Investor Ideas) The playstation 5 is the most popular video game console in Canada according to new research.

Casino site bet analysed the number of google searches in every Canadian city for the three latest generations of video game consoles: the PlayStation 5, the Nintendo Switch, and the xbox Series X and S collectively. They looked at the cumulative number of searches over the past 12 months for ten related terms to the keyword 'console,' including 'buy [console],' 'games for [console],' and '[console] deals' to find each city's favourite.

The PlayStation 5 was found to be the most popular console in Canada, ranking as the most searched for in all 83 cities included in the study. Repentigny, Quebechad the highest proportion of searches for terms relating to the PlayStation 5 compared to the other consoles. The city recorded 480% more searches for the PlayStation 5 than the Xbox Series X/S and the Nintendo Switch combined. This pattern was followed by Brampton, Ontario with 38% and Mississauga, Ontario with 21%.

The cities with the highest Google searches for PS5 consoles per 100,000 residents were Repentigny, Burnaby, and Surrey.

Sony estimates worldwide sales of its PS5 to be more than 59.2 million as of March 31st, 2024. Canada and the US have contributed approximately 23.7 million or 40% of those sales. The console is the best-selling video game console in North America.

The PS5 is a favourite for a good reason; its powerful specs and exclusive flagship titles, such as God of War and Spider-Man, have endeared it to serious gamers.

The more portable Nintendo Switch was the second most popular gaming console choice across all 83 Canadian cities. Burnaby, Fredericton, and Calgary had the highest Google searches relative to their population for terms related to the Nintendo Switch.

Released in 2017, the Nintendo Switch is an earlier entrant to the gaming console market, with its portable and traditional gameplay options cementing its place as a fan favourite. Alongside classic franchises like Mario and Zelda, newer releases such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons have helped solidify the Switch as a top choice for Canadian gamers seeking a family-friendly gaming option or those wanting to engage with immersive game worlds on the go.

Microsoft's Xbox Series X and Series S, appear to own a much smaller market share across Canada and collectively rank as the third most popular in all cities. The Xbox Series X/S failed to come out on top in any Canadian city.

The cities with the highest Google searches for the Xbox Series X/S relative to their population were Frederiction, Red Deer, and Lethbridge, respectively.

The console's focus on high-performance gaming and backward compatibility with older games will likely appeal to avid gamers while boasting Xbox exclusives such as the Halo and Gears of War titles.

Microsoft has recently declined to make its sales figures public. However, analysts estimate that Xbox Series X/S sales trail PS5 sales, though not by as wide a margin as they used to. Sales figures for Xbox Series S, the smaller, less powerful version of the Series X, are included in analysts' total console sale estimations. Current worldwide sales figures estimate that Microsoft has sold 27.2 million Series X and Series S consoles in total.

A spokesperson from bet commented on the study saying:

"This study offers an interesting insight into Canada's favourite video game consoles. The PS5 emerged as the undisputable winner, taking the crown in all 83 cities with more than 100,000 residents. This is in line with the high PS5 sales in Canada and the United States."
