Volkswagen to hire dual education students in production, management roles

(MENAFN) Volkswagen, the German automobile manufacturer, has announced intentions to temporarily employ several hundred dual education students in production roles following their completion of bachelor's degrees. This decision comes in response to recent media reports and aims to integrate students from the 2025 and 2026 cohorts into the workforce despite current economic challenges.

According to Volkswagen's statement, these dual education graduates will initially join production departments for a maximum period of one to two years. Subsequently, they will transition to indirect roles in management, ensuring job security and career progression within the company. Volkswagen clarified that this strategy, which aims to reduce employee costs in indirect areas by 20 percent by 2026, was developed in collaboration with the works council to support sustainable business operations.

For students who prefer not to work on production lines, Volkswagen offers alternative paths such as pursuing a master's degree with the assurance of reemployment afterward. The company emphasized that students who decide to leave the program will not be required to reimburse any financial support received during their dual study period. Additionally, those who gain production experience for at least one year will have the opportunity to apply for management positions.

However, Volkswagen's approach has met criticism from the works council regarding the timing and communication of these plans to the affected students. Sources within the council noted dissatisfaction over the timing of the email notifications during exam periods and raised concerns about the internal handling of the transition plans.

This initiative underscores Volkswagen's commitment to fostering talent development and career advancement opportunities for dual education students while addressing operational efficiencies in response to current economic conditions. The company continues to navigate challenges in the automotive industry by balancing workforce management strategies with collaborative efforts involving employee representatives to ensure equitable and transparent decision-making processes.
