Pakistani UN Envoy Reiterates Focus On Afghan Refugee Deportations

Amid the daily deportation of Afghan migrants from Pakistan, Munir Akram, Pakistan's UN representative, emphasized the continuation of expelling illegal migrants from the country.
Munir Akram made these remarks at the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).
Mr. Akram hoped that another 1.5 million registered Afghan migrants would also be returned to their country.
Earlier, Amnesty International had stated in response to the continued mass expulsion of Afghan migrants from Pakistan that Islamabad must respect asylum seekers' rights under international law and stop this process.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees database shows that approximately 2.18 million Afghan migrants have documentation and live in Pakistan, including about 1.3 million with Proof of Registration (PoR) cards and over 880,000 with Temporary Stay Permits (TVC).
Pakistan's representative reiterated the daily expulsion of Afghan migrants once again, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reporting the return of thousands of Afghan migrants from Pakistan every day.
The dire humanitarian situation of Afghan refugees remains critical amid the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, exacerbated by political instability, economic challenges, and insecurity.
Many Afghan refugees in Pakistan face uncertain futures, lacking access to basic services such as healthcare and education, while international aid remains inadequate to address their needs.
The humanitarian community continues to call for greater international support and assistance to alleviate the suffering of Afghan refugees and address the humanitarian crisis effectively.
