French authorities declare woman’s life in danger after wolf attack

(MENAFN) A disturbing incident unfolded at Thoiry zoo, located just outside Paris, where three wolves attacked a 37-year-old woman, leaving her critically injured. According to sources familiar with the case and local prosecutors, the woman sustained bites on her neck, calf, and back, prompting authorities to declare her life in danger.

The attack occurred as the woman, who had spent the night with her family in a safari-style lodge at the zoo, ventured out alone for a jog. The lodge, situated in the wolf zone of the zoo, offers an intimate experience with arctic wolves, promising tranquility and disconnection from the ordinary.

Authorities noted that the safari zone where the attack took place is typically restricted to vehicles, raising questions about how the woman accessed the area on foot. Chief Prosecutor Maryvonne Caillibotte of Versailles emphasized uncertainties regarding whether the victim inadvertently strayed from designated paths or encountered unclear signage.

Emergency responders swiftly intervened, managing to remove the wolves from the scene and secure the area. Initial reports suggested the woman breached multiple security measures, including fences and other animal containment systems designed to prevent such incidents.

An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the attack and evaluate the zoo's safety protocols. Authorities are examining how the wolves managed to engage with the victim despite existing security measures.
