Discover Korea This Summer With“RENDEZ-VOUS EN COREE” In The Heart Of Paris
With over 133,400 French visitors to Korea in 2023, this figure marked a 20% increase on 2019, before the pandemic.“This shows that the French have a real passion for the destination, and it's thanks to the Hallyu, the Korean wave, which is sweeping through the media and social networks that the French are getting ready to travel to Korea,” points out Lee Jinsu, General Manager of the Korean National Tourist Office in Paris.
Korean dramas such as Squid Games, and songs by artists such as BTS or Black Pink, became widespread during the Covid period, when people were longing to discover the country without being able to travel. Now the barrier has disappeared and travel has returned to our daily lives.“We're seeing major changes in the way French people travel to Korea compared to before the pandemic,” notes Lee Jinsu.
"Before the pandemic, the majority of French visitors were active seniors. Today, visitors under 30 account for 43.6% of all French visitors to Korea. Departures for language stays in Korea have exploded, as have applications for working vacation visas reserved for the under-30s, whose annual quota of 2,000 visas was exhausted in 2023,” adds Mr. Lee Jinsu.
Today, the country is no longer just known as“the land of the morning calm.” People no longer travel to Korea just to visit its Unesco World Heritage sites, such as temples and royal palaces. People from all over the world also come to discover the places seen in their favorite dramas, take K-pop dance lessons or make-up classes to learn about Korean beauty routines, taste Korean street food, hike in national parks or take language courses.
RENDEZ-VOUS EN COREE - June 22 & 23 at Forum Des Halles
In response to the enthusiasm of the younger generation for this land of K-Culture, the Korea National Tourist Board is organizing the event RENDEZ-VOUS EN COREE. Whether interested, passionate or simply curious, everyone is welcome to discover the true facets of Korea. Highlights include a travelogue by a family of influencers who left for Korea a few months ago, a K-Pop dance class, tastings and a make-up workshop to learn the beauty routines of Korean celebrities. Travel agencies and a language travel organization will be on hand to help visitors plan their future trips.
Mr. Lee points out that in 2024, as part of Visit Korea Year 2023-2024, numerous cultural, sporting and artistic events are being organized in all regions of the country.
"This is a good time to plan a trip to Korea.
Thanks to these operations, we hope to welcome more than 150,000 French visitors in 2024", he added.
