Uzbekistan, Pakistan View Termez-Mazar-I-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar Railroad Raising


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, June 14. Uzbekistan and Pakistan discussed Termez-Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railroad construction project, Trend reports.

The issue was reviewed at a meeting between Uzbekistan's Minister of transport Ilkhom Mahkamov with Ambassador of Pakistan to Uzbekistan Ahmad Farooq.

During the meeting, the sides discussed matters of cooperation and development between the two countries in the field of transportation.

Both parties noted the need to develop multimodal transportation through the territory of Afghanistan in order to increase the volume of cargo transportation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the administrations of Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan signed a road map for the building of the Termez-Mazar-I-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway in February 2021.

According to the calculations of the participants in the project, with a preliminary cost of about $5 billion, the new transport corridor with a transit potential of up to 20 million tons of cargo should connect the countries of Europe, Russia, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and further the states of Southeast Asia.
