Algeria On Gaza's UNSC Resolution: Opportunity To Halt Inhumane Israeli Aggression

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, June 11 (KUNA) -- The recently passed UNSC resolution on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is not ideal, but it provides a chance to halt the brutal and inhumane Israeli aggression and gives hope to the Palestinians, said an Algerian diplomat late Monday.
Commenting on the passing of the UNSC resolution, Algerian Permanent Representative to the UN headquarters in New York, Ambassador Amar Bendjama stressed that the continuation of the brutal Israeli assault would only lead to more unfathomable deaths such as the ones occurring during the operation on Al-Nuseirat camp.
Bendjama affirmed that his country voted in favor of the resolution to end the aggression on the Palestinian people, which lasted for a long period.
The decision is not ideal, but it gives hope to the Palestinian people instead of the death and suffering, he reiterated.
The Algerian official stressed that those committing such heinous crimes must face justice, pointing out that neglecting to implement orders of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to cease the aggression would only mean that genocide was in fact continuing to occur in the Gaza Strip.
On his part, Palestinian Permanent Observer at the UN Ambassador Riyad Mansour deemed the UNSC resolution as a "step in the right direction", reaffirming his unwavering stance towards a ceasefire to end the killing of his people.
He expressed gratitude towards Algeria's stance as the Arab non-permanent representative at the UNSC. He said that he would be working with Algeria to reach the goal of securing Palestinian rights.
He called for ending the killing of the Palestinian people, resuming much-needed humanitarian aid, and halting the forced displacement of Palestinian people, allowing them to return to their homes in the Gaza Strip.
Mansour also said that Israeli occupation forces must withdraw from Gaza and must not be allowed to occupy any piece of land.
The Ambassador pointed out that the Israeli occupation must now implement the resolution for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip immediately, exchange prisoners with the Palestinians, and make the ceasefire permanent. (end)
