No School Built In Helmand's Deishu District For Decades


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The residents of Deishu district in southern Helmand province have said that no school has been constructed in their area and complained that their children have been deprived of education for decades.

According to the 2019 census, 29,776 persons lived in Deishu district.

Mawlavi Ahmad, a resident and religious scholar of central Deishu, told Pajhwok Afghan News no school has been built in the district for decades.

He said during the past government of work on the construction of three school buildings started which could not completed.

“There is no school in our district, in the past democratic regime three schools were approved but only 30 percent work was done,” he said.

Akhtar Mohammad, another resident of the Deishu district, said:“No school building constructed in our district since this area was developed at district level, there are some community classes that are temporary and get closed after some months.”

Abdul Karim, another resident, said they were worried about the future of their children because there were no schools.

“Our children are deprived of education, we are worried about their future and want the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to build schools and madressas in our district so that our children also grow educated,” he said.

Mullah Jumma Gul Janan, the deputy district administrative chief, said that besides the non-availability of schools and madrassas the residents of the Deishu district have several other issues which need to be addressed.

“The People have problems in the health sector, similarly there is need for the construction of schools and madressas, we made these suggestions to the provincial government and hoped that these problems would be addressed,” he said.

Education Department officials also acknowledged that there is no school in the Deishu district and its residents had been deprived of education.

Education Department Director Mawlavi Mohammad Ewaz Ansari said:“There is no school in Deishu district, during the past regime under the Iqra scheme the reconstruction of schools launched which remained incomplete, the Deishu district residents claim regarding the absence of schools and education was right, they are deprived of modern education.”

He said the construction of 20 new school buildings or Helmand has been approved and this process would kick off soon. Each district will get one school building, the scheme is supported by UNICEF, he said.
