Turkmenistan Participates In IPCI International Parliamentarians' Conference


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, April 16. TheParliament of Turkmenistan delegated its representative to the 8thInternational Parliamentarians' Conference on the Implementation ofthe ICPD Programme of Action (IPCI/ICPD), which was held in theNorwegian city of Oslo, Trend reports.

During the conference, measures to address reproductive healthissues were discussed, as well as the exchange of countries'experiences on maternal and child health, protection of women'srights, and principles and methods for achieving gender equalityfor the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) until 2030.

The participants of the meeting were familiarized with thesystematic and consistent activities carried out in Turkmenistan inthis area, including at the legislative level and in cooperationwith UN agencies, as told by Gurbanmyrat Ashirov, a member of theCommittee on Social Policy of the National Parliament ofTurkmenistan.

Furthermore, the conference was attended by about 300participants, including more than 200 parliamentarians from allregions of the world and representatives of national, regional, andglobal parliamentary groups.

Meanwhile, the IPCI conference is aimed at facilitating dialoguebetween parliamentarians from all regions of the world on theimplementation of the 1994 International Conference on Populationand Development (ICPD) and is the only event specifically createdto form a global political consensus on reproductive health andrights in order to then transform into tangible national results inthe fields of policy, financing, and accountability.
