South Korea repositions thousands of scouts due to typhoon arrival


(MENAFN) South Korea on Tuesday began clearing out thousands of contributors at the World Scout Jamboree from a campsite in the south-west to more secure regions, mostly surrounding the capital Seoul, as Typhoon Khanun gets nearer.

The clearing out is the most recent blow to the 10-day party, coming after hundreds of scouts participating fell sick because of a heatwave. The British scouts, nearly 4,500, were repositioned into inns in Seoul on Friday while scouts from the United States, totaling around 1,000, were repositioned into Camp Humphreys, an American army base 70 kilometers south of the capital, on Sunday.

Typhoon Khanun, which has already caused mayhem in southern Japan, is anticipated to strike southern regions of South Korea on Thursday before make its way the peninsula, causing robust winds as well as rain from Wednesday to Friday.
