Kuwait Categorically Rejects Alleged Iranian Procedures Around Offshore Gas Field

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, July 3 (KUNA) -- Kuwait on Monday "categorically and totally" rejects purported Iranian procedures around the Ad Durra offshore gas filed in the neutral zone joining the country with Gulf Arab neighbor Saudi Arabia.
"We categorically and totally reject Iran's planned activities around the premises of the Durra offshore gas field," Minister of Oil Dr. Saad Al-Barrak said in a statement, emphasizing that only Kuwait and Saudi Arabia own "exclusive rights" to the field.
Kuwait was "surprised" by Tehran's plans and intentions, which "contravene the basic principles of international relations," the minister underlined.
A Kuwaiti foreign ministry source had earlier urged the Iranian side to start negotiations over the demarcation of the marine boundary between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia on one hand and Tehran on the other.
The gas field, shared by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, has the potential capacity to churn out more than 80,000 barrels per day of condensates. (end)
