Russians Fiercely Resist In Bakhmut Sector, But Afu Hold Initiative Cherevatyi

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The armed forces of Ukraine (AFU) continue offensive actions in the Bakhmut direction despite the enemy's superiority in manpower and military equipment.

The relevant statement was made by Spokesperson for the Eastern Grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Serhii Cherevatyi during a nationwide telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“In the Bakhmut sector, the Defense Forces continue holding the initiative. Over the past day, they have advanced more than one kilometer there,” Cherevatyi told.

In his words, Russian invaders are fiercely resisting.

“The occupiers opened fire on our positions 318 times with cannon artillery and multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), launched three air attacks. In general, seven combat engagements occurred, during which 61 occupiers were eliminated, 116 injured, and five were taken prisoner,” Cherevatyi noted.

Additionally, the Ukrainian military destroyed two Russian infantry fighting vehicles, one airborne assault vehicle, one Grad MLRS, two Giatsint self-propelled artillery systems, two guns, two electronic warfare systems, five ammunition depots, and one anti-tank system.

“Generally, we are holding the initiative and, most importantly, we are moving forward, although we do not have an advantage over them in forces and means,” Cherevatyi stressed.

In addition, Cherevatyi spoke of the situation in the Lyman-Kupiansk sector, where Russians had concentrated powerful forces. Over the past day, the occupiers have launched six attacks there, opened fire with artillery 578 times, and carried out 19 air attacks. During hostilities, 35 Russian invaders were eliminated, 82 injured and two taken prisoner. The Ukrainian military also destroyed one enemy infantry fighting vehicle, one mortar squad and five unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
