Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched a project to provide health care for patients with kidney failure and cancer in Yemen, by supporting Al Shafaqa Foundation for Kidney Failure and Cancer Care in Sana'a, to improve the general and nutritional services provided for 3,000 patients, at a total cost of $145,022.
In a statement, Chairman of Al Shafaqa Foundation Watheq Sultan Al-Qurashi said,“QRCS is helping us to maintain our operation for 10 months, meeting 70% of our needs, including food, water, electricity, and fuel supply. With their support, we can serve three meals per day for patients, covered housing rentals, and secure patient transportation between the center and dialysis facilities.
He added,“Patients with cancer and kidney failure have special nutritional, medical, and psychological needs. These are lifelong diseases that drain individual, family, and community resources. I urge QRCS and benevolent people to support patients with cancer and kidney failure, because they are permanently in need, and we have to combat such diseases together. We are still open thanks to humanitarian organizations. If there contributions stop, we will stop, and the situation will become even more critical.”
Al Qurashi thanked QRCS for its supportive and effective role and praised Qatar as a megadonor at the government, NGO, and community levels, which translates into better psychosocial conditions for the patients and their families.
QRCS has many health projects to support the hospitals and medical facilities that treat patients with cancer and kidney failure, including medications, surgeries, medical examinations, and radiotherapy, in addition to social protection and security, nutrition, training, and other key services.
Over the past few years, QRCS had six health projects to support patients with kidney and cancer diseases. This year, it is working on four relief and development projects worth $780,547 in total.
