Russia’s AvtoVAZ plans to start producing cars

(MENAFN) The chief executive of Russia’s largest automaker AvtoVAZ has declared that vehicle output at a St. Petersburg company that was previously owned by Nissan is going to continue this month.

The Japanese company departed the Russian market in 2022, transporting all its possessions in the nation to the state-possessed research and progress company NAMI for a symbolic amount of €1. The company in Russia’s second-biggest town was then purchased by AvtoVAZ, which is famous for its Lada automobile.

AvtoVAZ chief executive Maxim Sokolov informed journalists on Friday “June 14, 2023 is the date when production at the Lada St. Petersburg plant will start. A new Lada model will be manufactured in St. Petersburg.”

Sokolov stated that the plant prepares to output around 10,000 automobiles in 2023, with production growing over the years to come.

The Nissan factory in St. Petersburg, which was established in 2009, has an output volume of nearly 100,000 vehicles annually. In 2021, almost 43,000 vehicles came off of its assembly line. The factory mainly manufactured SUV models including the Qashqai as well as X-trail.
