David Roche is a Research Director (Strategic Energy Collaborations) at the Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF), University of Technology Sydney. His expertise includes distributed energy systems, flexible demand, and net zero strategy. Since joining ISF, David has led development and execution of numerous industry-focussed collaborative projects involving multiple research organisations, including 12 months as a Program Leader for the Reliable Affordable Clean Energy (RACE) for 2030 Cooperative Research Centre. He currently leads business development for ISF's Energy Futures team, and provides business development expertise to the newly-established NSW Decarbonisation Innovation Hub.

David has over 25 years' experience in business development and technology commercialisation across a range of industries. He has project-managed some of Australia's first grid-connected photovoltaic systems, helped develop Australian renewable energy standards and policy, mentored company founders through the UTS-based start-up incubator EnergyLab, and has been a director of five ASX-listed technology start-ups. David has edited and co-authored books on solar car racing and photovoltaic system design. He holds Bachelors' degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics, and a Master of Science.
