In a special operation in the Eastern province of Nangarhar, the report said a top commander of ISIS and his aide were killed.

According to provincial officials, the special intelligence force killed the ISIS top leader late Wednesday after encountering resistance in Wach Tangi village of the Shawa district of Nangarhar province.

The ISIS commander was named Tarab, and his accomplice was killed during an operation by a special intelligence force, local media outlets reported.

Earlier in February this year, the Taliban killed two senior members of the ISIS group in separate operations, officials said.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban administration, said that Qari Fateh, the regional Daesh intelligence and operations chief, was killed by Taliban forces during a raid in Kabul.

In addition, the group has killed three Daesh members, including senior Daesh leader Ijaz Amin Ahingar in a separate operation.

ISIS-Khorasan, a regional affiliate of the Daesh group, is a key rival of the Taliban in the country.

The militants have increased their attacks in Afghanistan since the Taliban takeover of the country in August 2021. ISIS targets Taliban officials, ordinary people and foreigners in the country.
