Football Coaches Support Earthquake Survivors with Training in Container City

(MENAFN) In the aftermath of a devastating earthquake in Türkiye's southeastern city of Malatya, a group of dedicated football coaches is providing much-needed support and training to children residing in the container city located in the city center. These coaches, who themselves are survivors of the earthquake, are using their skills and passion for the sport to help children cope with the trauma they have experienced.

One of the coaches, Savas Gunay, a trainer from the Provincial Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, shared his personal experience, revealing that his own home was severely damaged by the earthquake. As a result, Gunay's pregnant wife and child found refuge in the Teknokent Temporary Accommodation Center, which has been set up as a container city to provide shelter for those affected by the disaster.

Gunay, who is 34 years old, emphasized the importance of helping children deal with the psychological impact of the earthquake. Through their football training sessions, the coaches aim to create a supportive and engaging environment where children can find solace and regain a sense of normalcy. By organizing the children into groups, the coaches focus on teaching them the fundamental techniques of football, laying the groundwork for their development in the sport.

Furthermore, Gunay mentioned that the training sessions extend beyond the immediate container city. The coaches plan to provide basic training to the children and equip them with the necessary skills to participate in other teams or competitions. Their efforts have been met with great enthusiasm and interest, as there is a strong demand for football among the children residing in the container city.

The dedication of these football coaches not only reflects their commitment to their profession but also demonstrates the power of sports in bringing people together and fostering resilience in challenging times. Through the universal language of football, these coaches are instilling hope and positivity in the lives of these young survivors, helping them find joy and camaraderie amidst adversity. Their selfless actions serve as an inspiring example of community support and unity in the face of adversity.
