Qatar's Trade Surplus Reaches Qr22bn In April

Doha, Qatar: Qatar's merchandise trade balance, which represents the difference between total exports and imports, showed a surplus of QR22bn in April 2023, a decrease of about QR12.2bn or 35.6% compared to April 2022, and increase by nearly QR0.7bn or 3.5% compared to March 2023.

A release issued by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) showed that the total exports of goods (including exports of goods of domestic origin and re-exports) amounted to around QR30.7bn, showing a decrease of 29.4% compared to April 2022, and decrease of 0.5% compared to March 2023.

On the other hand, the imports of goods in April 2023 amounted to around QR8.7bn, showing a decrease of 6.3% compared to April 2022. and decrease of 9.3% compared to March 2023.

The year-on-year (April 2023 vs. April 2022) decrease in total exports was mainly due to lower exports of Petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons (LNG, condensates, propane, butane, etc.) reaching QR18.6bn (approximately) in April 2023, i.e. decrease of 33.2%, Petroleum oils & oils from bituminous minerals (crude) reaching QR5bn nearly, decrease by 25.8%, and decrease in the Petroleum oils & oils from bituminous minerals (not crude) reaching 2.6bn by 29%.

In April 2023, China was at the top of the countries of destination of Qatar's exports with close to QR5.6bn, a share of 18.3% of total exports, followed by South Korea with almost QR5.1bn and a share of 16.6%, and India with about QR3.5bn, a share of 11.4%.
