Innovation A Powerful Lever In Emerging Economies

Modern technologies and innovations are very interesting and a powerful lever in emerging economies, said an official.

During the second day of the Qatar Economic Forum 2023, officials including H E Paula Ingabire, Minister of Information Communication technology and Innovation, Republic of Rwanda, Eng. Omar Al Ansari, Secretary General at Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation Council (QRDI), Dr. Inma Martinez, Digital Pioneer and AI Scientist, Chair of the Expert Group at the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) among others shed light on the acceleration of technology innovation in leveraging emerging economies.

Eng. Omar Al Ansari said:“I think what we are witnessing today, especially with AI is very important and in the context of emerging economies this is very important.”

Eng Al Ansari highlighted that“It is a fact that some of the struggles and obstacles in emerging economies are due to the lack of expertise, knowledge, specialisation within those sectors. If we think now with the power of generated AI, it has actually closed those gaps very quickly and helped transfer knowledge, scientific breakthroughs, and best practices.”

However, the expert also remarked that it is pivotal to comprehend the potential risks and stressed it must be the focal point of the discussion.

Speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of the event, Al Ansari remarked that“This whole forum is about addressing challenges and leveraging opportunities in the economy in general. Economies around the world today in general are facing challenges and opportunities today. For example challenges like climate change but also opportunities like Artificial Intelligence.”

“So I think this event, in general, is a fantastic congregation of a lot of discussions on matters where innovation is interesting, innovation is a very powerful lever especially in emerging economies to actually both address these economical challenges but also capitalise on the opportunities,” he added.

Minister of Information Communication Technology and Innovation, Republic of Rwanda, H E Ingabire expounded during the panel discussion on the position of her country in terms of advancing innovation and technology. She elucidated that Rwanda is a country where individuals are welcome to innovate technologies and contribute to economic growth by creating better solutions.
