Bodies of Missing Musician, Son Recovered After Kayaking Trip in Arkansas

(MENAFN) Chuck Morris, the percussionist for the band Lotus, and his son Charley were reported missing on March 16 during a kayaking trip on Beaver Lake in Arkansas. After an extensive search effort involving dive crews, boats, dogs, and more from several agencies, the operation shifted to a recovery effort. The search was complicated by the lake's challenging environment, which passed depths of 180 feet. Despite the use of technology and the efforts of multiple search and rescue teams, the bodies of Morris and his son were not recovered until 24 days after they disappeared.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the bodies of Morris and his son were recovered thanks to the use of remote-operated underwater vehicles by the Carroll County Mennonite Disaster Service and Christian Aid Ministries Search and Rescue Team from Tennessee. The search was conducted in a challenging environment, and the water temperatures in the lake had dropped to the 30s and 40s in the days following the kayakers' disappearance. The recovery of the bodies was a result of tireless efforts from the teams involved, and Sheriff Holloway expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to bringing closure to the family.

Lotus, the band Morris played percussion for, issued a statement shortly after the disappearance expressing their fears that Morris and his son were dead. They shifted their focus to celebrating Morris and his son's lives and memories with them. The band's post on Twitter read, "While we are deeply grieving, we plan to celebrate Chuck and Charley's lives, our memories with them, and what they meant to so many people."

The tragic incident highlights the dangers of outdoor activities and the importance of safety precautions, especially in challenging environments. The search and recovery efforts of the Carroll County Mennonite Disaster Service and Christian Aid Ministries Search and Rescue Team, as well as the other agencies involved, demonstrate the dedication and commitment of search and rescue teams to bring closure to families and ensure that those who have gone missing are found. The recovery of Morris and his son's bodies brings closure to their loved ones and the music community that mourns their loss.
