(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, March 28 (KUNA) -- The European Commission Tuesday announced that it will provide 331 million euro (USD 358 million) in humanitarian aid targeting food insecurity as well as addressing the needs of displaced persons and refugees in The Greater Horn of Africa region.
The region is facing multiple and overlapping humanitarian crises with more than 50 million people in urgent need of food assistance, it said in a press release.
The EU funding will support humanitarian projects in Djibouti with 500, 000 euro (USD 541,000) , Ethiopia with 60.5 million euro (USD 65.4 million), Kenya with 12.5 million euro (USD 13.5 million), Somalia with 72 million euro (USD 77 million), South Sudan with 82 million euro (USD 88 million), Sudan with 73 million euro (USD 79 million) and Uganda with 30 million euro (USD 32 million).
Around 14.5 million people are displaced in the Greater Horn of Africa region, while around 4 million are refugees, it noted. (end)
