Michael B. Jordan, Jonathan Majors show support for Angela Bassett after Oscar loss

(MENAFN) Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors took the stage to present the award for best cinematography at the 95th Academy Awards, but before announcing the winner, they showed support for Angela Bassett, who was nominated for best supporting actress for her role in "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever." Jordan started off by addressing her as "auntie," a reference to the 2018 movie "Black Panther" in which Jordan's character Killmonger said the same thing to Bassett's character, Ramonda.

A win by Bassett would have marked the first Academy Award for an acting role in a Marvel movie, but Jamie Lee Curtis ended up winning the award. Bassett has been nominated for an Oscar twice in her career, with her first nomination being for best supporting actress nearly thirty years ago for her portrayal of Tina Turner in the 1993 biopic "What's Love Got To Do With It."

In the lead-up to the 95th Academy Awards, Bassett spoke to "CBS Mornings" co-host Gayle King about her career and her loss at the Oscars in 1994. She reflected on the moment and shared that she didn't walk away thinking she had been robbed, as she didn't want to carry that negative emotion with her for the rest of her life.

Despite not winning the award, Bassett has been a prominent figure in Hollywood and has been praised for her performances throughout her career. Jordan and Majors' support for her at the awards show demonstrated the respect and admiration that she has earned from her peers in the industry.
