Ukraine retaliates against Israel at UN

(MENAFN) Based on the news site Axios, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has demanded that Israel provide Kiev with air defense systems in exchange for Kiev's backing of Israel at the United Nation. Representatives from Ukraine apparently decided not to oppose a recent anti-Israel motion after not getting any solid pledges from recently reinstalled Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Unnamed Israeli and Ukrainian sources were mentioned by Axios in its story on Saturday as stating that the two presidents spoke over the phone on Friday. According to reports, Netanyahu encouraged Zelensky to abstain from voting or vote against a United Nation General Assembly resolution that asked the International Court of Justice to render a legal judgment regarding Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories.

According to Axios, the chat was apparently preceded by Kiev's decision not to vote against the text in a United Nation committee vote a few weeks ago.

According to the story, Zelensky made it apparent during the phone discussion that Ukraine would adjust its attitude if Netanyahu promised to provide military support to Kiev during its battle with Russia.
