Canal, Retaining Wall Construction Kicks Off In Samanagan

AIBAK (Pajhwok): Work on an infrastructure project that included the construction of a canal and retaining wall, has begun in Aibak, the capital of northern Samangan province, an official said on Sunday.

The project costs more than 5,767,000 Afghanis provided by Norway.

Mullah Mohammad Omar Anas, head of the Khulam River Zone Authority, told Pajhwok Afghan News the scheme was implemented through the program called“Rural Development” by the ACTED institute in order to prevent the risk of floods faced by Pas Kanda village in Aibak.

He said, the length of the canal is 240 meters and the retaining wall is 170 meters which will be a high quality concrete construction.

The purpose of the project was to prevent water wastage and destruction caused by floods.

Anas tasked the engineers to control and monitor the construction of the project regularly and offer technical advice to improve the quality of the work.

Nik Mohammad,47, a resident of Paskandah village, said every year when the floods flow into Aibak river, their canal filled with mud and suffer damage.
