Al Shaqab Racing's Ebro River Back To Winning Ways In Chester

Without a victory since his all-the-way success in the Group 1 Keenland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh last term, the Al Shaqab Racing-owned Ebro River (Galileo Gold x Soft Power) got back to winning ways when taking the Listed Freddie Wilson Queensferry Stakes at Chester.
Trained by Hugo Palmer, the three-year-old colt had disappointed in three starts at Gr.3 level so far this season, but the application of first-time blinkers saw the 107-rated colt get back on the scoreboard, under a strong ride from jockey Ben Curtis.
Ebro River travelled keenly and was held in behind the leaders through the early stages of the 1,200m contest.
Looking much the best on the turn into the straight, Ebro River was forced to switch wide and took over inside the final 200m. Maintaining his advantage, Ebro River went on to score by a length and three quarters from Princess Shabnam (Gregorian), with Ventura Diamond (Dandy Man) a further neck back in third.
Ebro River was bred by Tally-Ho Stud and is now a winner on four of his thirteen starts.
A son of Galileo Gold, he is one of two winners out of Soft Power (Balmont), herself a winner at three. The second dam, Rumuz (Marju) has produced seven individual winners, including Key Rose (Key Of Luck), who was Listed-placed and also Girl Power (Key Of Luck), who is the dam of the Champion Sprinter Slade Power (Dutch Art), a dual Gr.1 winner.
