Algeria, Qatar Have Solid, Distinguished Historical Ties: Algerian Ambassador

Doha: Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to the State of Qatar H E Dr. Mustafa Boutoura asserted the distinguished relations between his country and the State of Qatar. He pointed out that Algiers and Doha are bonded with respectful and solid historical relations characterised by permanent consultation between the two wise leaderships of the two brotherly countries.

In his statement to QNA, the Ambassador affirmed that the visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Algeria comes in response to the invitation of President of Algeria H E Abdelmadjid Tebboune to attend the opening ceremony of the 19th Mediterranean Games scheduled for June 25. 

He pointed out that this visit interprets the excellent relations between the leaders of the two countries and will form a new impetus for the already distinguished bilateral relations as well as being a good occasion to review and exchange views on the most important regional and international issues of common interest.

He said that the visit comes in light of the momentum for the development of bilateral relations. He pointed out that the successful visit of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Qatar in February opened a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations between the two countries and culminated in the signing of several cooperation agreements between the two countries. 

He added that these cooperation agreements included a memorandum of understanding regarding the feasibility study of the expansion of the Algerian Qatari Steel (AQS) company to move to the second stage of the production level, which is expected to raise the plant's production capacity to 4 million tonnes per year. Besides, an agreement to develop cooperation and exchange experiences in the field of higher education, scientific and technological research by signing the second executive programme 2022-2025 among others.

In his statement, Ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to the State of Qatar, Dr. Mustafa Boutoura said that the visit of a delegation from the Qatari Businessmen Association to Algeria in June, in parallel with the Algiers International Fair — which is the largest annual economic event held in the country — is an achievement added to the previous cooperation between the two countries, represented by the investments of the Algerian Qatari Steel AQS company in the industrial area and Ooredoo group in the communications sector, which achieved great success in Algeria. 

He pointed out that the value of the investments provided by these two projects amounted to more than $2bn making Qatar the first Arab investor in Algeria.
