Qatar, Algeria urge unity, solidarity among Arab countries

Doha: Qatar and Algeria have stressed the importance of upholding the values of unity and solidarity among Arab countries to overcome the various current crises that the region is going through.

The leaders of both the countries have agreed to support and strengthen frameworks and mechanisms for joint Arab action with regard to future entitlements, especially the upcoming Arab Summit in Algeria.

It was said in a joint statement issued by the State of Qatar and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria yesterday on the occasion of the visit of President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria H E Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Doha from February 19 to 21.

The statement reads:“Based on the fraternal relations and distinguished historic ties that unite the State of Qatar and the Peoples Democratic Republic of Algeria, and at the invitation of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria H E Abdelmadjid Tebboune paid a state visit to the State of Qatar from February 19 to 21, 2022.”

It added:“The two leaders held extensive bilateral talks focused on the relations between the two brotherly countries and ways of enhancing and developing them in all fields. The two sides exchanged views on issues of common concern in the regional and international arenas. 

They affirmed work to coordinate their positions to serve the joint interests and enhance security and stability in the region and the world. The talks reflected the depth of the bilateral relations and the congruence of the two countries' views at the bilateral level.”

The two sides expressed their satisfaction with the consultation and coordination between the two countries and looked forward to strengthening them at all levels.

The two sides also commended the distinguished cooperation relations and looked forward to promoting them in all fields, especially in economy, trade and the gas sector. In this context, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reiterated his gratitude to his brother, Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, for the support provided by the State of Qatar to the Algerian candidate who was elected Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum. 

“The two leaders emphasised the real and diverse opportunities available in the two countries to enhance cooperation by enabling opportunities for investment integration between the two countries and establishing partnerships, as well as increasing and diversifying the volume of trade exchange.”

The two sides reviewed the developments of the changing conditions in the international arena and their repercussions on the Arab region, stressing the need to seek to establish balanced international relations that would be governed by the Charter of the United Nations and the principles established in this framework.

“They stressed the importance of upholding the values of unity and solidarity among Arab countries to overcome the various current crises that the region is going through, and agreed to support and strengthen frameworks and mechanisms for joint Arab action with regard to future entitlements, especially the upcoming Arab Summit in Algeria. 

“In this regard, H H the Amir valued the efforts of his brother, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and his keenness on providing an atmosphere conducive to the success of this summit, stressing the readiness of the State of Qatar to support these good endeavours and contribute to achieving the desired results, especially in light of the common challenges facing the Arab countries at various levels.”

The statement further said:“With regard to the central issue of the Arab nation, the two leaders reviewed prospects for mobilising more international support for the Palestinian cause in a manner that preserves the rights of the brotherly Palestinian people and ensures the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. They also stressed the importance of achieving the Palestinian national unity and the endeavor launched by Algeria in this regard to complement the sincere efforts made by many Arab countries, especially the State of Qatar, to achieve the desired progress towards this supreme goal.”

The two leaders also discussed the most important crises that threaten peace and security in the Arab region, and stressed the consensus of the two countries' positions on the need to formulate peaceful solutions that achieve the aspirations of the peoples concerned and distance their countries from the dangers of foreign interference. In addition, the two discussed the crisis of the Coronavirus pandemic and ways to encourage the trend towards Arab countries possessing the elements of health security and self-sufficiency in this field.

At the conclusion of the visit, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune expressed his thanks and appreciation to H H the Amir for the warm reception and hospitality he and his accompanying delegation received during their stay in their second country, Qatar, and invited H H the Amir to visit Algeria.“H H the Amir welcomed this invitation and promised to fulfil it on the date to be agreed upon through diplomatic channels.”
