According to an order issued by Principal Secretary to the Government, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi,“Sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of a Committee regarding issue of Commemoration of birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji and its observance in general/under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 in the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.”

The order added that the committee may co-opt any other member(s) as and when required.

Following abrogation of Kashmir's semi autonomous status on August 5, 2019 administration here abandoned the 13 July holiday which had a symbolic value for Kashmiri Muslims who would commemorate it as martyrs day in memory of those massacred by the troops of Hari Singh.

It was the first time since Independence and Jammu and Kashmir's accession to the Union of India, that the July 13 ceremony did not take place in Srinagar.

Usually, 13 July would see important government functionaries, including the governor, chief ministers, cabinet ministers, heads of various political parties and even separatist groups, visit the martyrs' graveyard or Mazaar-e-Shuhada to pay homage to those who had fallen in the struggle against maharaja rule.

The LG administration is now mulling to declare the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh as holiday in Jammu and Kashmir.
