Afghanistan - Badghis disables ready for contribution in country's reconstruction

QAL-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Disable persons in northwestern Badghis province say people should work for the reconstruction of the country and government should create suitable environment for the creation of jobs and working opportunity as peace has prevailed and fighting ended.

As a result of four decades of conflict and insecurity millions of Afghans forced to leave the country and thousands internally displaced.

According to some sources over one million casualties inflicted as result of conflict while some sources claimed nearly two million people suffered due to war and insecurity.

In addition, around 4.4 million people — accounted for 13.9 percent of the country population — disabled in decades of conflict and currently more than half of the total population of the country lived under the poverty line.

People who lost parts of their body in the conflict say efforts should be made to consolidated peace in the country and reconstruct the country.

Mohammad Arif, 27, the resident of Badghis province, said he lost his one leg as a result of a roadside blast in early 2021.

Hailing from the Baghak locality of Qala-i-Naw City, Arif established a stall in the corner of the city in which he sells electric equipment.

He said:“If there was no conflict, I would not be disabled, disability deprived me from education and progress in my life.”

He is the father of two daughters and has one son.“Thanks to Allah thousand times that peace established in our country, peace will heal the wounds of our people.”

Arif said he and other disabled were ready to play role in the reconstruction of the country.“Islamic Emirate should provide job opportunities to the masses, it will help in the development of the country and our people will earn money to deal with hanger.”

Mohammad Ghaws, another disabled who lost his leg in a roadside blast three years back, said:“Conflict brought misiries to our people in the past 40 years. There are many individuals like me who lost at least one part of their body.”

He is driving a taxi currently and is the bread earner of a seven member family. Ghaws is worried about the economic problems he is facing and asked acting government to provide working opportunities for the people.

He said:“People are happy for peace and stability, government should work hard to great jobs and eliminate poverty and hunger to consolidate peace and stability.”
