Odell Beckham Jr. announced on Monday that he will earn his whole pay in bitcoin. Thereby, making him the latest NFL player to do so. He is a fresh new part, the wide receiver for the Los Angeles Rams.
Beckham Jr's fallout with the Browns and subsequent relocation to LA is very well out in public. But rather than signing him to a multi-million-dollar contract (where he'll most likely receive salary fortnightly or monthly); the Los Angeles Rams have decided to pay his 2021-22 contract in bitcoin.
“It's a NEW ERA & to kick that off I'm hyped to announce that I'm taking my new salary in bitcoin thanks to CashApp,” he wrote on Twitter.
The Rams did not respond to requests for comment right away.
The three-time Pro Bowl pick signed a one-year deal with the 7-3 Rams earlier this month. It was reportedly worth $4.25 million, after leaving the 6-5 Cleveland Browns.
According to Bitcoin Magazine , Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley are among the NFL players who get at least a portion of their income in bitcoin.
The decision follows the revelation last week that the Staples Center sports and entertainment arena in downtown Los Angeles will now be the Crypto.com Arena.
