Hungarian University Forum and alumni meeting in Baku

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency ) From 14 to 17 October 2021, representatives of seven Hungarian universities (ELTE, BGE, universities of Szeged, Pécs, Miskolc, universities of agricultural and life sciences and of veterinary medicine) discussed the possibilities of cooperation with partner institutions in Azerbaijan. The programme was organised by the Embassy of Hungary in Baku with the support of Tempus Foundation.

In the framework of the programme, on 14 October the Hungarian delegation visited Ganja, where they were informed about the functioning of the three local universities (state, agricultural and technical) and the research carried out there. On the morning of 15 October, this was followed by further discussions and visits to eight universities in Baku. The Azerbaijani partner universities covered all disciplines (engineering, oil, humanities, economics, tourism, medicine). In the afternoon, at the Begin Group Baku International Education Fair, hundreds of interested visitors came to the joint table of the Hungarian Embassy and the Tempus Foundation, as well as the Hungarian universities' stands. On 16 October, the programme continued with an alumni meeting, with the participation of students who had already graduated in Hungary, and the leaders of several student associations. The four-day visit was rounded off with a highly successful concert by the Hungarian folk-rock group Kerekes Band.

Over the past years, educational relations between Hungary and Azerbaijan have been developing dynamically. Currently, around 1000 Azerbaijani students are studying in Hungary, most of them are beneficiaries of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme. The call for applications for the programme is expected to be announced in mid-November this year.

During the visit, cooperation agreements were signed between the University of Szeged and Ganja Agricultural University, and between the University of Miskolc and Baku Higher Oil School.
