Tanzanian Zanzibar voices worry over sluggish pace of coronavirus inoculation

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Aug. 29 authorities in the Tanzanian Zanzibar voiced worry over what they called a sluggish pace in the inoculation against coronavirus.

Only 10,866 persons have been immunized by Aug. 24 against 85,000 shots administrated in June and July, stated Abdallah Suleiman Ali, the director general in the Ministry of Health, Social Welfare, Elderly, Gender and Children.

Zanzibar kicked off the coronavirus inoculation drive on July 22.

Ali noted earlier the shots were meant for frontline laborers, comprising health workers, employees in the tourism sector and the elderly, however due to the poor response, authorities have permitted other members of the public to get the shots before the vaccines expire.
