Greek officials warn against crucial COVID-19 war amid limited abilities

(MENAFN) In the continuing struggle against the COVID-19 pandemic, Greece's public health system is hitting its limits, since the prevalence of anemia and hospital admissions is increasing, officials and physicians warned.

The Greek Government has taken further measures this week to enhance the healthcare system by mobilizing private hospitals and clinics in the care of patients.

On Friday, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) confirmed 2,405 new infections, 49 fatalities and 464 admissions of COVID-19 patients to government hospitals over the past 24 hours. In addition, 521 have been intubated.

Reporters qouted Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias as saying at a regular press briefing on Wednesday that "If you take into account that a middle-sized hospital in our country has about 200 beds, you will see that in the past few days almost all beds fill up in each emergency shift."
