Cambodia outlaws burning of trash to decrease air pollution

(MENAFN) Cambodia has published a directive to bar people living in rural regions from burning paddy straw and garbage in their grounds to diminish air pollution, the Khmer Times revealed on Monday, December 14.

Neth Pheaktra, Ministry of Environment spokesman, stated that according to a review, the major sources and activities that produce an upsurge of the attentiveness of inert particles are emissions from industrial units, cars using diesel and other fuels, forest fires, burning of grass fields, burning agricultural waste, forest clearing, burning of rice straw, burning of solid waste in the open and landfills, and dust from building spots.

He stated that throughout the dry season from December to April, the consequences of the preceding air quality monitoring study carried out in capital Phnom Penh and the provinces showed that the air quality had deteriorated frighteningly, particularly with the upsurge in the concentration of inert particles floating in the air (PMID and PM2.5) above the set average, which could be high risk and affect people's health.
