Oman- Construction at Duqm Refinery project gains momentum


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Duqm Refinery project is witnessing a significant growth in construction activities by the three engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors.

The overall progress of the project has almost reached 13 per cent and this include EPC works comprising excavation, concrete pouring for foundations of buildings and the construction of pipe-rack.

A total 4,769 workers have been mobilised by all EPC contractors with 3,275 at the site to start the initial works of the construction.

Commenting on the progress of construction, Dr Salim bin Saif al Huthaili, CEO of Duqm Refinery said, 'We are pleased to see the progress of work in our project and we aim to deliver it within allocated time and budget. Once delivered, Duqm Refinery will contribute in boosting the Omani economy and will be a catalyst for growth in the Special Economic Zone of Duqm. It will also contribute to the emergence of other industries in the economic zone and will contribute in creating direct and indirect job opportunities for locals.'

The project has worked a total of 3.7mn man-hours with zero time wasting fatalities or injury incidents. Also, over 1,000 safety inductions have been given and 10,000 job specific safety employee training sessions provided. Duqm Refinery is designed to be able to process a range of blended crude oils and configured as a full-conversion hydrocracker/coking facility, which will utilise advanced technology, commercially proven at the scale of the project, supplied by leading technology licensors.
