Oman- Fanja in HM's Cup final for 13th time

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Fanja, a club that has won a record nine titles of the prestigious His Majesty's Cup Football Championship, seems to be reserve its best for this tournament.

On Sunday, it produced one of its best-ever performances in recent times as it clinically demolished hosts Mirbat 4-0 in the second-leg semifinal of the HM's Cup in Salalah to storm into the final for the 13th time.

Fanja had won its home leg 3-2 on March 6, and on Sunday, a brace each from Mahmood al Hassani and Naseeb al Ghailani saw the former winners enter final with a 7-2 score aggregate.

It now faces the winner of the other semifinal between former champions Sur and Majees. Sur was hosting the second-leg later on Sunday, having won the first-leg 4-2 against Majees.

Fanja opened its account as early as in the fourth minute when Hassani blasted a volley after a goalmouth scramble following a long throw-in.

Mirbat goalkeeper Hani Najm A'deen had a nightmare under the bar on Sunday. Ghailani made it 2-0 as he got past an onrushing A'deen in the 36th minute and Hassani extended the lead when A'deen failed to collect properly a long-ranger with two minutes left for interval.

Ghailani completed the rout in the 80th minute after A'deen fumbled outside the box for him to shoot into an empty net.

Fanja, which last won the title in 2014, will now look for its tenth crown in 13 appearances.
