Dutch Erwin Koeman in Oman for talks to succeed Verbeek

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) There could be a continuation of Dutch coaching style in Oman if the final round of talks between the Oman Football Association (OFA) and Erwin Koeman reach to a conclusion by Wednesday.

The Dutch coach's arrival on Monday night sparked speculations on him succeeding Pim Verbeek as national team coach after the latter resigned after the 2019 Asian Cup in UAE earlier this month.

Dutchman Verbeek had quit on personal grounds after leading Oman for the first time into the knockout stage of Asian Cup. The 57 year old Erwin, who is the elder of the famous Koeman siblings, had last served as the interim coach of Turkish giant Fenerbahce. His younger brother, Ronald Koeman, is presently the manager of the Netherlands team.

Said Othman al Balushi, the OFA chief executive, who received Koeman at Muscat International Airport, told Muscat Daily on Tuesday, 'Mr Koeman is here for talks and negotiations. The OFA board will meet tomorrow [Wednesday] to decide on the national team coach.

'He has to agree to our proposals and we have to look into his demands. There is nothing more I can say.'

Erwin's managerial career started at the renowned Dutch club, PSV Eindhoven, as a U21 manager and later as club's assistant manager in 2001. He then had stints with another big Holland club, Feyenoord, before taking up the task as Hungary manager from April 2008-July 2010.

Erwin then worked as assistant to his brother Ronald at Southampton and Everton before joining Turkish club last August.
