Thanks to modern technology, people can know more than ever before about the world around us and what lies outside the solar system in a large universe. Advances in astronomy have allowed scientists to keep everyone abreast of when various celestial events occur.

The first lunar eclipse in 2019 will occur on January 21 and will last from 07:34 to 10:51 at Baku time, the deputy director for scientific work of Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory named after Nasraddin Tusi of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Doctor of Philosophy in Physics Khidir Mikayilov told Trend.

Deputy Director said that this eclipse cannot be observed on the territory of Azerbaijan although this is a total eclipse, adding that this natural phenomenon can be observed in the countries of Oceania, America, Africa and Europe.

The next partial lunar eclipse will occur on July 17 and will be visible in Azerbaijan, as well as in South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and Russia.

Today, astronomers can tell when exactly such events will occur and where exactly on Earth you need to be in order to see them. Thanks to modern science, millions of people can see such fascinating phenomena and learn even more about them.

Why are lunar eclipses happening? The reason for this mysterious phenomenon is actually simple and lies in the continuous movement of the planets. At certain times, one planet is eclipsed by the shadow of another.

Usually from 2 to 6 eclipses (solar and lunar) occur per year.

Eclipse is a phenomenon of the visible conjunction of the sun, moon, earth, and sometimes other planets. When these three objects of the universe line up at once, one of them becomes invisible.

For example, when an eclipse of the sun occurs, the moon is between two heavenly bodies, the sun and the earth. It is the Moon that blocks the normal view of the sun from Earth, creating a unique event that everyone calls the solar eclipse.

At the time of the lunar eclipse, the planet Earth will be located between the Sun and Moon, the natural satellite of the Earth. The moon disappears, and then, when it passes through the shadow cast by the Earth, it will appear again.

Lunar eclipses take place during the full moon, when the moon is in front of the sun.

The orbit of the moon is inclined by about five degrees compared to the orbit of the earth around the sun. If this slope was not observed, all the inhabitants of the Earth could see a lunar eclipse every month.

A lunar eclipse can be seen much more often than a solar one. Since the Moon is more than 300 times closer to the Earth than the Sun, it means there are simply more chances that the Earth will block the light of the moon than the Moon will hide the light from the Sun.

Solar eclipses are less frequent and, when this happens, as a rule, they can be seen only for a short time and by only a small part of the Earth's population. Lunar eclipses, on the other hand, are easier to catch (they happen at night) and they are visible to more people on our planet.

Virtually all ancient peoples perceived this heavenly phenomenon as a harbinger of something bad: wars, diseases, droughts. Many people considered the Sun and the Moon spiritualized, and during eclipses they performed various rituals to 'release their luminaries.

In general, there are no serious warnings about the dangerous effect of the phenomenon on the human body. At the same time, there are still recommendations for pregnant, elderly and people suffering from chronic diseases. All the emotions that you experience at lunar eclipse will be sharper and more intense. These days, stay at home, avoid nervous, physical exertion and overwork. This is due to increased electromagnetic and gravitational activity, because celestial bodies these days act in one direction during a solar eclipse and in the opposite direction during a lunar.
