Five Asian people were arrested by Hong Kong Police and charged with possessing drugs and weapons after an operation on Lamma on Saturday.

At 7 am on Saturday, police raided three apartments on Lamma Island after a foreign officer tipped them off that there was a supply chain of illegal drugs there, Sing Pao reported.

Officers first raided a house in Hung Shing Ye Bay and arrested a 49-year-old Filipino man after he was found with 1.6 grams of marijuana, a 26-centimeter kukri and a set of brass knuckles. He will face charges of drug possession, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Police also arrested a 41-year-old Sri Lankan man and a 40-year-old Thai woman, an unmarried couple, after finding 2.4 grams of marijuana and a pipe for smoking ice in a house in Sha Po Tsuen.

Officers also raided another house on Yung Shue Wan Main Street and found 19 grams of the drug ice, a pipe for drug-taking and an air-gun. They arrested a Filipino man and woman, 31 and 27, for alleged drug trafficking and possession of an instrument to smoke the drug and possession of an imitation firearm.

Police found some small plastic bags in the house and believed they were to use for drug packaging.

The operation netted a total value of HK$13,000 (US$1,660) worth of drugs, Ming Pao reported. All five people, who did not resist arrest during the operation, held Hong Kong ID cards and do not belong to any triad group, according to police.

They reportedly bought the drugs on Hong Kong Island and tried to resell them on Lamma Island. They said they had the weapons for self-protection.

Police said the operation has successfully disrupted a drug ring which had been active on the island recently.
