DUBAI, 18th November, 2018 (WAM) -- Dubai Science Park, DSP, a science-focused business community, hosted the 10th Green Leadership Series under the theme 'Youth Engagement: The Future is Now and it's Green'. Panel discussions held during the programme focused on the crucial role of engaging youth in achieving a sustainable economy in Dubai.
Held for the first time at the new DSP headquarters, the forum brought together leading experts from Dubai's Green Economy and paired them with young sustainability pioneers to discuss how businesses can reduce their carbon footprints with the help of the leaders of tomorrow.
In her keynote speech, Dr. Nawal Al-Hosany, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the International Renewable Energy Agency, IRENA, and Deputy Director General of the Emirates Diplomatic Academy, EDA, said, "In less than 15 years, the UAE has become a beacon and centre of gravity for sustainability. Just in 2017, the UAE invested US$2.2 billion in renewable and sustainable energy projects, marking one of the largest investments globally."
"Our ambitious projects not only serve UAE citizens, but are designed to impact the sustained well-being of future generations around the world. It is our responsibility to facilitate the transition to a greener and more sustainable future, and the Green Leadership Series offers a welcome platform that builds bridges and creates lasting partnerships between stakeholders, while serving as the voice of young people," she added.
As host of the forum, Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, Managing Director of DSP, said, "We are extremely pleased to hold the 10th edition of the Green Leadership Series at Dubai Science Park, which marks a milestone in the event's history. Over the years, the platform has established itself as a leading industry forum that convenes experts from across the sustainability sector to examine some of the most pressing and challenging issues confronting businesses and societies today."
Moderated by LeAnne Graves, energy reporter and expert on renewable energy, the event drew the participation of leading sustainability experts, including Dr Mari Luomi, Senior Research Fellow Energy, Climate Change and Sustainable Development at EDA; Nicholas Lander, Regional Sustainability Lead at CH2M; Mel Bradley, Head of Science at Foremarke School and Zeina Soufan, Presenter and tv personality. Representing the youth camp were Noora Nasser, Student - Electrical Engineering, General Electric, and a member of the Young Future Energy Leaders, and Maryam Al Ansari, Student - Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering from the University of Sharjah.
