EU, RUSSIA, CHINA emphasized to keep commercial ties with Iran

(MENAFN) The European Union, Russia, and China have emphasized they will keep commercial ties with Iran despite a new wave of sanctions imposed by the United States that covers Iran's energy and banking field.

On Saturday Iran requested European guarantees of backing in the face of Washington's intent to re-impose sanctions on vital Iranian oil sales to pressure Tehran to curb its nuclear deal.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif conducted telephone conversation with the European Union's foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, and his counterparts from Germany, Sweden, and Denmark about European procedures to counter the U.S. sanctions, the Iranian state news agency IRNA reported.

Irna affirmed, "Mogherini and the European ministers ... highlighted the importance of the finance ministers' commitment to Europe's financial mechanism to save the Iran nuclear deal and said the mechanism will be operational in the coming days."
