$214m volume of trade exchange between Egypt, Tunisia in H1 2018: Nassar

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar revealed that the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Tunisia during the first six months of this year amounted to $214m.

He explained that the Egyptian exports recorded $176m, while imports from Tunisia amounted to $38m.

This came during the meeting of the Egyptian-Tunisian trade and industrial committee in its fifth session, which was concluded Saturday by the Egyptian and Tunisian ministers of trade and industry.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed on facilitating the procedures related to the trade movement between Egypt and Tunisia.

Moreover, they have agreed to strengthen joint trade relations and eliminate all challenges that impede the flow of trade exchange and joint investment between the two sides, in order to make a breakthrough in the level of joint trade relations.

In that regard, Nassar, explained that the meeting of the trade committee aimed at enhancing the joint coordination between the governments of the two countries to facilitate the trade movement and activate the role of the private sector in both countries.

In addition, they will be maximising the benefit from the resources available in both countries to achieve economic integration and effective partnership between the two sides, assuring that the coming period will witness more development and growth in the economic cooperation between the two sides.

On the other hand, Tunisian Minister of Trade and Industry OmarAl-Bahi stated that his visit to Cairo is a confirmation of the Tunisian government's keenness to enhance its trade and economic relations with Egypt.

He pointed out that what was agreed upon during the trade committee's activities represents a fundamental basis for expanding existing relations, which does not reflect the great potentials available in the two countries.

Al-Bahi pointed out that Tunisia's accession to the COMESA will contribute to a qualitative change in the level of trade relations between Tunisia and the countries of the COMESA, especially with Egypt as one of the most important countries in the COMESA.
