(MENAFNEditorial) Alpha Destination Management is all set for a strong presence at the 52nd ITB Berlin. Taking place in Germany from 7 to 11 March 2018, ITB is the worlds leading annual travel trade exhibition that brings together over 10,000 exhibitors from 180 countries. With a focus on Luxury Travel this year, the event is expected to attract more than 110,000 trade visitors from across the world.
Mr. Samir Hamadeh, General Manager of Alpha Destination Management, said, ITB Berlin is one of the most significant trade shows in our calendar. The German market continues to perform well and is among the top ten source markets into our destination. We are proud to announce that we have signed an agreement with Lidl Digital, the online distribution arm of Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG to offer them our tourism services in the UAE. Alpha is also the ground handling and the exclusive Destination Management Company to a wide portfolio of Tour Operators and well known Travel brands within the German market, and for us it is extremely important to continue nurturing those relations with key industry partners.
For ITB this year, our focus will be luxury travel. Speaking about the opportunities emerging in the sector, Mr. Hamadeh, commented, Luxury travel is no doubt booming. Recently, Dubai was ranked as the worlds second most popular destination for luxury travel. Globally, high-end travel accounts for seven per cent of the market and annual growth is in double-digit figures. At the same time general approach towards this market is changing. Luxury is no more about conspicuous consumption. There is more emphasis on experience rather than opulence. Veering away from material, todays elite travellers are after one-of-a-kind moment. Its all about the personal journey and the same applies to travel in the UAE. Experiential travel, personalized engagement, customized / authentic experience and wellness are some of the new trends. This presents our industry with a unique opportunity to deliver truly bespoke, innovative and memorable experiences. Therefore, it will be interesting to see the global industry trends emerging in luxury travel at ITB.
Elaborating on the companys expansion strategy, Mr. Hamadeh said, Alpha strategy is not to go for new source markets to seek new business but to target specific niche segments in existing markets such as seniors, special needs, etc to boost business. We believe certain niche areas such as the seniors segment which is worth billions of dollars globally have been underestimated, and if we design the right packages for them they will be far more valuable than the mass markets.
